Neuroscientist Susan Greenfield cited evidence that digital technology is having an impact on our brains: Microstructure abnormalities in adolescents with internet addiction disorder, in the journal PLoS (free access). Increase in people with autistic spectrum disorders. The rise in the appeal of Twitter. (...) Know more at http://goo.gl/fMMUo.

(...) Conheça mais em http://goo.gl/a59ur.

Wireless power cut cord of patients with implanted heart pumps
Researchers at the University of Washington and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center have tested a wireless power system for ventricular assist devices (mechanical pumps to give failing hearts a boost), or VADs. VAD were developed as temporary measures for patients awaiting a heart transplant. Technology has evolved and these ventricular assist devices operate in patients for years. Using the wireless system means no power cord poking through the skin, reducing the risk of infection and improving the patient’s quality of life. (...) Researchers envision a future where patients would install transmission coils in their homes and workplaces to create zones where the implant would receive uninterrupted power. (...) How computers can mimic human 3-D vision
Researchers at Purdue University have developed 2 new techniques for computer-vision technology that mimic how humans perceive 3-D shapes. The techniques, heat mapping and heat distribution, apply mathematical methods to enable machines to perceive 3-D objects by mimicking how humans perceive 3-D shapes by instantly recognizing objects no matter how they are twisted or bent. (...). Know more at http://goo.gl/SiEPo.
